Location: 9500 block of North Mopac Expressway northbound
Deceased: White male, 24 years of age
Narrative:
On Sunday, February 19, 2012, at 8:27 p.m., Austin Police officers responded to an auto-pedestrian crash in the 9500 block of North Mopac Expressway northbound.
A preliminary investigation shows a pedestrian attempted to cross the northbound lanes of North Mopac from the east to the west when he was struck by three vehicles: a 2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser, and unknown gray or white SUV, and a 2010 Volkswagon Jetta.
The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene. His identity is not being released until family is notified.
Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call APD Vehicular Homicide Unit Detectives at (512) 974-4779. This is the 10th traffic fatality of 2012. At this time in 2011, there were seven traffic fatalities.
