Austin Water crews have completed repairs to a 66" inch water main that serves a large portion of north Austin.
The repairs took place during the past 7 weeks at the corner of MLK and Regency Drive. Crews excavated and removed approximately 130 linear feet of 66" concrete steel cylinder pipe and replaced it will 64" ductile iron pipe. The entire stretch of pipe beneath Regency Drive is now new.
Part of the repair project that area residents will notice will be an improved entrance on Regency Drive that provides motorists with a dedicated left turn lane.
Austin Water engineers have concluded that shifting soils due to the extreme drought is the most likely cause of the failure.
Austin Water understands this was a large scale repair project that was successfully accomplished in part by the cooperation from area residents during the repair process.
Austin Water's mission is to provide safe, reliable high-quality drinking water services to its nearly 900,000 current customers, and to ensure reliable water services to its future customers.
