The principal training module is called "ADAtude". This module has been designed to help employees have a raised awareness of barriers to people with disabilities and combines a fun and interactive game, with hands on exercises designed to give trainees a better approach to interacting, guiding, and assisting people with disabilities.
Skills taught in this training include disability etiquette, how to be more comfortable around people with disabilities and awareness about issues faced by people with disabilities. This class benefits managers, supervisors and all employees especially those having direct contact with the public.
Comments from past participants:
- “The exercises were great learning tools and make you think twice.”
- “Instructor was very knowledgeable and created a safe environment for communication on an awkward subject!”
- “Presenter was very down to earth & positive about a subject that can be very sensitive.”
The Department coordinators are also trained on Title II Regulations so they may assist employees with disability or accessibility issues.
Alternative Format Training on Effective Communication is provided as well as any custom training requested by departments. ADA Office interns are also trained.
